One Command Runs Every Validation Layer
Static checks → unit tests → build → integration → E2E, chained into one command. Don't be the human tester.
AI generates code faster and faster. If verification still means tapping and testing by hand, the faster AI gets, the more you fall behind—and the more you're gambling on its correctness. The fix: cut verification into layers and run them all with one command.
After reading, you should be able to answer:
- What are the validation layers, and what does each check?
- Why must it be a single command?
- How does verification keep up with generation?
What the layers are
- Static checks: types, lint, formatting. Catches "surface" errors, fastest, sub-second
- Unit tests: is each function, each block correct. Catches "logic" errors
- Build: does it compile, does it bundle. Catches "integration" errors
- Integration / E2E: connect the modules and run a real flow. Catches "end-to-end" errors
The lower the layer, the closer to the real user, and the slower and pricier. Layering's benefit: the fastest layer stops most low-level errors first, so the expensive layers don't waste time on bugs that could've been caught early.
Why a single command
- Avoid missing layers: if you only run "the layers I remember," you'll skip the most critical
- Avoid wrong order: inconsistent verification order makes results incomparable
- Let AI run it: "run
pnpm checkafter you're done" is more reliable than telling it to click a list of things in some order
One command chains every layer together; you sit by and wait for the result instead of testing by hand vibe-report.
Validation has to keep up
- Generation is fast, so validation must be faster, or the more you use AI the more you panic
- Converge layer by layer: static first (fast, catches most), then build, then E2E
- Automate and speed up whichever layer is slow, so every change can be validated quickly
Let AI self-test and self-fix in-session
- After writing, have it run verification; when red, have it fix itself copilot-cost
- You only set "what to run, green means pass" and hand the loop to AI
- It hands you the work only after each layer passes
Verify with one chained command and let AI self-test and self-fix, and you're no longer the tester. Next, guard against the cruelest kind of "done"—the fake fix.
